WATS CAMPUS EXPANSION

Construction underway in Africa

Doubling Floor Space in the WATS Main Building

There are six buildings on the WATS campus, including three larger buildings and three smaller ones (including our small two-room security and maintenance building and our two room tool building). The largest building (which still does not have a name) is a 120 ft x 120 ft former warehouse with an office annex on the east side containing administrative offices. Our present campus expansion is focused on adding a second floor to the entire 120 ft x 120 ft building, giving us double the floor space. Because the steel structure warehouse has a 20 ft ceiling, we can do this without adding a new roof or creating another foundation. It is therefore mezzanine-level construction, which costs much less than a new building.

The north half of this expansion involves a new upstairs WATS Chapel, measuring 60 ft x 120 ft. This will allow up to 1,000 people to worship the living God at our weekly chapel services and other events. Stairways at both ends of the building will allow students and visitors to exit. The floor of the Chapel will be above the classrooms, offices, clinic, bookshop and computer department that occupy the ground floor.

Work on the northern half of the building continues - take a look at the construction page to see recent photos of our efforts. Work will continue as funds are available.

In the new year, WATS will continue to expand into the south half of the warehouse building. After the chapel relocates to the mezzanine, the WATS library will expand into the south half of the building (60 ft x 120 ft). We will begin preparing for a mezzanine floor over the library space. Block and concrete pillars will support a floor above - giving a 10 ft library ceiling. This will provide room for nine spacious classrooms above: three measuring 25 ft x 40 ft, and six measuring 25 ft x 20 ft.

Thank you for your prayers for the successful remodeling of the main building. May these plans all become a reality as soon as possible! Foundation grants have been received for about 25% of the total cost, and several US-based work teams have already come to help.

More About WATS

WATS serves one of the fastest-growing segments of the Christian Church in the world, and it focuses squarely on the two greatest needs of the African Church: leadership development and discipleship of believers. We offer a Diploma in Theology, two BA programs, four Masters programs and hopefully starting in 2010 a Doctor of Ministry program. And, as our mission statement notes, we have a very focused purpose: "To train men and women for holy living, for carrying the Gospel to the unreached, and for catalyzing national spiritual awakening."

At West Africa Theological Seminary our primary focus is on spiritual formation, although our commitment to strong academic standards is also widely known. Those who are looking for a quick degree or who are not interested in humbly developing a closer walk with God are encouraged to look elsewhere. But if you want to take a journey with us to greater effectiveness in Christian leadership, greater faithfulness in rightly dividing the Word of Truth, and a deeper commitment to godly living, WELCOME! We would love to hear from you and we would be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
